It's pretty amazing that the Holy Father has started such a firestorm. While I have read many Muslims calling for calm, there are so many who have flown off the handle and threatened with statements like "crush the cross" and the like. The sad part of this whole episode is how these sword-rattling muslims have allowed the modern error of establishing a position based on a sound-bite. This is all the more strange because of radical Islam's resistance to modernity. I recommend anyone who wants to understand the peril of sound-bite intellegence read the accurate translation of Pope Benedict's speech at the Vatican website .
