UPDATE: See and hear Monday's presentation HERE
On April 23rd, 25th & 27th Dan Wegner will be providing an open air presentation on the University of Minnesota Minneapolis Campus, on Northrop Mall. The presentation will draw attention to the prevalence and seduction of the Culture of Death. "It's part of my duty as a baptized person" says Wegner, a 45 year old parishioner of Mary Queen of Peace in Rogers, Minnesota. "There are so many people that have constructed a life that steers clear of any religious influence. The only way to reach them is to bring the message to them." Wegner's wife of 10 years is supportive of her husband's apostolate, but she has a few concerns. "I told him that I need to check his life insurance policy for any exemptions related to street preaching", she jokes. The Wegners have two boys, one who's almost four and the other was just born less than a month ago. Wegner's presentation will focus on the topic of death. It will begin with quotes by Stalin, Hamlet, Elie Weisel, and the Bhagavad Gita. "Death is objectified to the point that it has become entertainment.. We see ourselves as immortal gods where the unborn and the elderly are disposable inconveniences." He has identified the following three characteristics of the Culture of Death: - The pursuit of personal pleasure or Social Utopia at all costs
- Human rights or personhood are assigned other humans, not "endowed by the creator"
- Lesser human lives are disposable for the sake of pleasure or utopia.
"Whether it's the Nazi Holocaust or euthanasia or abortion" warns Wegner "these three marks are pointing the way to the Culture of Death."
